The E111 health insurance card is no longer valid. You now need a EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) to ensure trouble free, NHS style medical care whilst abroad. Sounds overly complicated and bureaucratic, doesn't it? In fact, it is very simple. Just follow this link and apply online, all you need is your National Insurance number.
